ClearCheckbook Status Update

8/23/2010 in ClearCheckbook Updates
We wanted to let everyone know what's been going on behind the scenes and what our current and future plans for ClearCheckbook entail.

Our Last Big Update
The last major overhaul that ClearCheckbook saw was about two and a half years ago when we launched V3 of the site. This included the dashboard, premium memberships, more reporting, currencies, translations and more.

This last update was the culmination of about two years worth of suggestions and requests. We learned a lot about what to do and what not to do with this update and will be taking that knowledge into account in the future.

The Current Site
ClearCheckbook as it stands today has been receiving about 190-250 new user signups per day from the site and mobile apps. We have been continually monitoring forum posts and emails and have been fixing bugs that many people have been reporting.

The reason there hasn't been any real new feature announcements will be explained below.

The Future of ClearCheckbook
Like with the last big update to the site, we had to make a conscious decision about how to proceed. To incorporate many of the larger features that have been requested, we need to give the site a much larger overhaul so it can handle all of these upgrades. The best way to do this is to have one main development path and keep the majority of effort focused there.

This is what we're doing with ClearCheckbook. We are putting the majority of our time and resources into the next big update of the site and will be incorporating a lot of the feature requests and updates into that version. In an effort to cut back on duplicating work, we will not be releasing too many new features to the current site in the near future.

We aren't ready to give any real details on what's going to be included in the next big release of the site, but we are focusing on usability and new features. We have been working on this for about a month now, which is why you might have noticed a drop in our feedback in the forums and blog.

Mobile Apps
With the release of the latest Android update, all of the mobile apps should be essentially on the same page as far as features go. With our limited time and resources, we can't show the mobile apps the same kind of attention as we do the main site. We also don't have the resources to work on a Blackberry or Windows Mobile app at this time. In the future, this will change as we continue to grow.

Conclusion
While most of our new feature development will be shifting to the next version of the site, we are still committed to maintaining the current version of the site through bug fixes and smaller updates. As always, please send us feedback through the Contact Us link at the bottom right side of the page or through the forums. We respond to basically every email that requires a response and we're spending more time in the forums and help answer questions there.

ClearCheckbook is growing quickly and we are doing everything in our power to help pave the way for this growth.

thanks
As a free user and a developer, I can appreciate your efforts. I really love the system and happy someone recommended it to me (who is a paying customer by the way).

I can't justify paying a monthly fee for this service. I'm using it as a replacement for my MS Money, which I've been using for 8 years. The difference is with MS Money, I paid once and that was it. I understand the whole "automatic" updates by using a web service, but I've never had a desire to have my MS Money updated. In fact, I purchased the MS Money update once and didn't like it, so reverted back to the version I was using.

ANYWAY, what I'm trying to say is that if you had a one-time payment (or donation as some sites call it), I would gladly send some money your way to support the system.

Great News
This is great news to hear..

I always look forward at seeing websites updated even if it is just a color change. I have use this site everyday for the last 3 years and just love it. I just recently switched to premium for the ability to have more users and other things. I really like the fact that it tracks what each user is entering and the additional areas for check numbers and memos.

Keep up the good work and looking forward to the future enhancements.

Thank you for all your work
I really hope the things I requested from the forum will be on this new release! I can't wait. I am still limping along with my old version of MS Money in conjunction with ClearCheckBook until then. I love the Android app, that's one of the main reason why I love this web application so much. Thank you for all your hard work! I agree with ghayes1970, I don't use the Premium features to justify paying a monthly fee. If you have a donation option, I will gladly contribute to your effort also.
