New iPhone App in Development

2/24/2012 in ClearCheckbook Updates
It's been about a year and a half since we initially released our iphone app. In that time, iOS has undergone some major changes which have pretty much crippled our existing app. After looking into the issue for a while, we found a solution that meets our needs to start developing a new iPhone app.

The main issue we were facing was with each new mobile device that comes out, they all require a new app to be created using their own custom framework and code which means every app we develop is one more set of code we have to worry about keeping updated. The method we decided on will help keep these issues at bay while still being able to provide a native app.

Currently, the new iPhone app handles logging in, registering, account overviews, transaction register and transaction viewing. We hope to have the new app completed and released by the end of March.

Here are some screen shots of the app currently in development:

As you can see, the app looks a lot nicer than the current one.

If you're an existing iPhone user, please use the mobile optimized website by going to clearcheckbook.com in the browser on your phone. This will work much better than the current iPhone app.

Stay tuned for more updates.

Looks a lot cleaner. Maybe too late but any chance the numbers could be bigger? Otherwise a huge improvement.

Thanks.

Never use it
I installed the app but never use it, the mobile version is good and responsive enough for me to enter my transactions

I don't suppose you'll do an iPad app anytime soon.
I use the iPhone app on the iPad and it is definitely clunky. I guess I'll go to mint on my browser for now.

Neat
I went to using mint for a while and now I'm back to clearcheckbook. Can't wait to try the new iphone app.

Fantastic
Any chance it will retain login information and have a numerical keypad for amount entry?

re: Fantastic
Yes, it will do both of those. It retains login information and also uses the numeric keypad for numeric fields.

We're just finishing up the reminders section now and then we'll move into bug checking. Hopefully we can have this submitted to the app store within a week or so.

Brandon, will the payee field have auto-fill enabled? Also, is the apostrophe bug fixed? these were issues withthe Android version.

Looks good
Downloaded the updated app. It is quite good and a vast improvement over the old one. I'm sure it was a lot work - thank you for the effort and time you put in to it.

Will you have a new thread for suggestions for the app, or bug reports? This blog isn't the right place but not sure where you want feedback.

RE: Looks good
If you'd like to start suggestions or bug reports, please use the Forums and then the section for the iPhone app.

Thanks!

Recurring transactions nightmare
When looking at reminders (recurring transactions) on the iPhone version of ClearCheckBook, none of the scheduled transactions are correct. The end date is the year BEFORE the start date, the repeating patterns are incorrect, etc... Is there something I'm doing wrong here? I am a former Checkbook Pro user (Mac and iPhone) and am hoping to not have to go back. Thanks!
