Grassroots online checkbook registry hits 130,000 registrants and users.

Albuquerque, NM (October 15, 2010) – (, a free online checkbook registry, announced today that is has surpassed 130,000 registrants in its user base; becoming a true online industry player for the first time.

"When I founded Clearcheckbook in my dorm room in 2006, I never fathomed it reaching this kind of success or user base," says founder and CEO, Brandon O'Brien, regarding the beginnings of Clearcheckbook. "I created Clearcheckbook merely for myself, as a way for me to stay on top of my budget, and make sure I wasn't overdrafting my account every month. I posted a link to my program on a computer-geek forum one night, and bam, people really wanted to know more, see more, and use my program for their finances too. Even then, I had no idea it could ever reach this level.

O'Brien first launched from his dorm room in May of 2006 at Purdue University. At a grassroots level, Clearcheckbook quickly gained recognition and continued to grow every day. In December of 2008, while working a full-time job as a Webmaster for Eclipse Aviation, Brandon decided to give the users what they kept asking for, a fee-based premium membership level. Until that date, all transactions, tracking, and features were entirely free. In December of 2008, O'Brien added a simple step-up, futuristic tracking, in-depth reporting, and comprehensive reporting.

"Even with the addition of the premium membership for a fee, I really want this site to be free and accessible to anyone and everyone," O'Brien states when asked about the fee-service. "The more I have become involved with Clearcheckbook, and the more I have begun to look at other online banking and tracking sites, the more I really do believe that any single person should have the ability and freedom to manage their money at no cost to them."

Since its inception, Clearcheckbook members have had over 12 million transactions. New sign-ups are averaging approximately 190 – 250 a day. And mobile app downloads couldn't look better, WebOS: 25,486 Android: 10,909; iPhone: 1,897.

I think the android app really put this program/site on the map. I still feel as if though the $4.00 a month fee to upgrade to premium is a bit steep. Maybe have another tier (at a lower rate) for people that only want the running balance and/or a consolidated version of running reports. I can't see paying $4 a month just for the running totals, which is what most people would want in the premium features. Good work otherwise.

I've tried many others and Clearcheckbook has been the best and easiest to use. Thanks for all of your hard work and I look forward to seeing what things are coming in the future!

Kudos to Brandon and this creation. Been with CCB a bit over a year now & it keeps getting better & better. Improving every aspect of my own personal financial portfolio so to speak. I think the $4 Premium Member ship is a fair price to pay (its even cheaper if you buy 6 months at a time. $22/6 months).
Keep up the awesome work!

I also would like to extend my best wishes for Brandon for his work and great website. One thing however, by giving away a lot of features for free and with (130,000 subscribers) I am imagining it will take a lot of effort and time to maintain and keep all clients connected. therefore, I suggest that the free features are reduced and the premium becomes $25-30/year. This way what is lost in fees is made up by more people signing up since it's cheaper. I am saying this coz once you get used to something you wanna feel assured that it will continue to be there for you. And I would hate to see CCB closing due to shortage of funds (examples include Buxfer and Wesabe).

Best solution yet
Clearcheckbook is still my choice. I've tried the other ones, but I keep coming back to you.

Please don't let Intuit buy you out. I've lost too many services like that. Clearcheckbook is the only one that allows me to have data on multiple iPhones/iPods (that way the wife and I are on the same page).

Love this app.

Look at those WebOS stats!
I'm impressed at how many WebOS downloads you've had. We were hungry for a good checkbook program, but I agree with beaker1995, this is the only one I would use on any platform. Having separate checkbooks from your spouse in this age is just rediculous. May you have continued success!

"Felicitaciones" from Spain
I am a fee user from Spain that discovered the website through mobile app webOS. I do not know the percentage of users from outside USA but I want to thank you for your effort in translating the site and developing the webOS app. Keep good work!

Congratulations, this is the best

I don't know how long I have been a paying member and I too believe $4/month is a super value. So much so I think it certainly could be more. Like another comment here, please do not get bought out. Give us the chance first to provide what you need/want. Your simple design, rapid customer support, and quality product is what all is really needed. Keep up the wonderfully great work.
