Automatic backups of your ClearCheckbook data to Dropbox

11/27/2013 in ClearCheckbook Updates
We're happy to announce the launch of a new ClearCheckbook feature that lets you enable automatic backups of your ClearCheckbook data to your Dropbox account.

If you're a premium member and you have a Dropbox account, you can now enable automatic backups by clicking on Tools at the top of the page, then click on Automatic Backups. Once enabled, your data will be backed up to a CSV file on your Dropbox account each night as long as you've added new transactions since the last backup, have an active premium membership and have the feature enabled.

Our Latest New Tool: Save-Up Tracker

3/10/2013 in ClearCheckbook Updates
We've added a new feature to our ever growing list of money management tools. This new tool is called the Save-Up Tracker and it helps you keep track of various goals you're saving up for.

To help understand how the Save-Up Tracker works, let us give you an example. Lets say you have a Savings account that you put money in every month as a way to save up for something. For this example, we'll say you're saving up for a new laptop computer that costs around $1,000 and you want to have it by June.

You can use the Save-Up Tracker to enter this goal, the amount you're trying to save ($1,000), which account the money will come from (Savings) and the deadline (June 2013). Once you add the goal we will keep track of your progress by comparing the balance in your Savings account to the amount of the new laptop. The more money you get in your Savings account, the closer you'll get to your goal. Once you reach your goal we'll turn it green so you know you can now buy your laptop.

The deadline is optional and doesn't have to be set for a goal. Also, another option is to set a percentage for each account. In the example above, if you were also saving up for a $500 new digital camera you could also apply it to the Savings account but set the digital camera as 25% of the Savings account balance and the laptop as 75%. This way you can track multiple goals with the same account and weigh them differently according to how important each goal is to you.

The Save-Up Tracker can be found by clicking on the Tools navigation icon and then Save-Up Tracker. We've also provided a gadget for the ClearCheckbook Dashboard so you can quickly see how you're doing from the Dashboard page.

You can see some screenshots and read some more information about the Save-Up Tracker here: https://www.clearcheckbook.com/save-up-tracker

New Budgets Tool and Site Updates

11/8/2012 in ClearCheckbook Updates
We've given the Budgets tool a complete overhaul both visually and mathematically. The new visual feel of the budgets will make it easier to see how much of your budget has been spent. You can now expand the budget to view more details such as the start/end dates, original budget amount (if rollover is enabled), a percentage of your budget spent in pie format and what duration the budget resets at.
ClearCheckbook Budgets

Speaking of duration, we've added five new durations to the budgets. Now, in addition to monthly budgets you can set up weekly, bi-weekly, quarterly, semi-annual and annual budgets. If you create a budget with one of the new durations, you select the start date for that budget and we'll use that as the starting date for when the budget resets.

We also updated the Budget History (both the visual and text history) to be more informative. The visual reports now show your budget history for the last 2 years. The text history has been updated to look more like the new budgets page. The Budgets dashboard gadget also got a visual overhaul and the ability to expand the budget for more information.

We will be working on the mobile apps to bring the new budgeting features to them as well. For now, the mobile optimized website also has these new updates available.

If the budgets look messy, please refresh the browser about 5-10x in a row really quick to force your browser to download the latest CSS files.

On top of re-building the Budgets tool, we've also made several other minor updates and bug fixes including:
  • Update: Changing premium membership billing durations
  • Bug Fix: Sorting on Search Page
  • Bug Fix: Importing QIF files with GBP sign
  • Bug Fix: Reports Gadget not showing currency correctly on refresh

As always, if you have any questions, comments or suggestions, please don't hesitate to contact us and let us know!
